Healthy Living Platform (HLP) have worked with Lambeth and with volunteers to deliver food since the start of the pandemic. Now the council has contracted them to work on longer-term plans to co-ordinate and distribute surplus food. HLP’s aim is to put food at the heart of the community so that no person goes without a nutritious meal.
Lambeth Council is consulting on plans to address food poverty and food insecurity over the next three years at a time when more people than ever need help as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Food poverty can harm physical and mental health as well as increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer among people who are unable to access a healthy and nutritious diet.
Deadline: Wednesday, 24 February 2021 at 11.59pm
We really need you today: Lambeth is responding to confirmation of a single case of the Covid South African variant in the south of the borough, and are commencing a ‘surge test’ programme in part of Knight’s Hill ward (West Norwood) and Streatham Wells ward (East Streatham).
You need to take a COVID-19 test as soon as possible if you live or work in parts of West Norwood and a small section of Streatham.

You only need to take a test if you’re aged 16 and over.
This year Valentine’s Day will fall on a Sunday. There will sadly be no candlelit dinners in restaurants or special trips out.
However, local cafes, restaurants and pubs will be offering click & collect/delivery of themed meals, and local butchers, bakeries, supermarkets etc. will tempt you with special offers for your at home celebration. The Love in Lockdown list of local Valentines offers usefully put together by Station to Station will give you some ideas.
The census is coming, and it makes a difference to everyone. By taking part and telling the Office for National Statistics (ONS) about yourself, you will help make sure you and your community get the services and support needed.
Two opportunties this week:
- Age UK - digital neighbours
- Covid-19 vaccine marshals
Amongst this month's news from the SLBI: online talks, new children's online resources, and information on one benefit of membership.
Air pollution is not just a central London problem, with many areas still exceeding the legal limits for pollution across the city. As a reminder, the ULEZ is to expand from 25 October 2021 right up to the South Circular (A205) and North Circular (A406) roads. To check the implications for you, the TfL site has both post code and vehicle checkers.
